Gothic Barn

This historic 1934 gothic barn, located in Sequim, Washington, was rescued in 2008 by Chuck and Barbara Steel of California, who recognized the importance and beauty of this huge farm building that they discovered was for sale during a visit to friends in the area. So many of these grand structures are disappearing like the dinosaurs, as one by one, they succumb to the ravages of time and their owner’s inability to afford to repair them properly. We are so impressed by Chuck and Barbara’s passion to preserve this wonderful building, they are a true inspiration. Chuck is a successful industrial designer and he made several models himself to illustrate his ideas. Kelly Conrad, a Bainbridge Island structural engineer, with whom we have worked on several projects, introduced us to Chuck Steel and we were given the opportunity to propose a solution to his idea of putting a glass house inside the barn.
